Our primary function is running the cafe. We’re open 7 days a week Monday to Friday 8am-5pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-4pm. In the gallery that adjoins the Cafe there are Aboriginal artefacts on display as well as the work of artists from around the area Barbara Avery, Judy Torrens, David Miller amongst others
We also provide community transport to the surrounding areas of Bonalbo and Tabulam. Once a fortnight we take people into Casino and Lismore to go to appointments such as seeing specialists’ etc. It’s the only occasion for young people to get into town to get to appointments with Tursa or other job service providers. As well, we take the Elders on outings and take them to important meetings in the region.
At the Bonalbo Aboriginal Corporation and Community Centre, next to the Cafe, we provide a venue for Legal Aid, visits from Probation and Parole and Centrelink and we run health workshops supported by the AMS at Casino. We also operate a drop-in centre for local youth and work with the local primary and high school to hold meetings to plan for school events such as NAIDOC week. Aged Care Services bring the elderly to the Centre to have a cup of tea and yarn about what the centre’s all about. It’s not only for Goorie people it’s also for non-Indigenous people
